Position, Position, Position
Newstead is handy to everything. It’s a short drive from the Brisbane CBD and less than 15 minutes from the airport. Public transport in the area is excellent. Buses run frequently to and from the city. Both the Teneriffe City Cat terminal and the Bowen Hills railway station are 15 minute walks from most venues for guests with plenty of energy and comfortable shoes. Guests at weddings at Newstead can generally ditch the car and travel safely and comfortably on public transport.
Couples have some great venues to choose from for weddings at Newstead.
The Refinery is a sleek, minimalist, ultramodern venue situated in a converted warehouse. It is definitely worth a visit because it offers an intimate outdoor ceremony space and excellent seated and cocktail reception options for up to 200 guests, .
Lightspace is a unique venue for weddings at Newstead. It has a raw industrial vibe, softened by greenery. Food trucks are a great catering option at Lightspace and there is an upstairs balcony with amazing city views that is brilliant for photos.
Newstead House, Brisbane’s oldest surviving residence, offers a total change of pace. Newstead House is a fabulous, historic venue situated on a small hill in the middle of Newstead Park above the Brisbane River. Ceremonies are often conducted in the beautiful Fountain Courtyard with receptions and wet day ceremonies on the verandah of the house.
The Old Tram Substation in Newstead Park is a cute and quirky venue that’s hard to beat. Just a stone’s throw from Newstead House, the Old Tram Substation is now an all purpose venue. It can be decorated to soften the industrial feel of the building. It’s a great venue for ceremonies, particularly if your reception is booked elsewhere.
Newstead Park is one of my favourite ceremony spots in Brisbane. It’s remarkably quiet, with beautiful gardens and majestic trees. There are a number of bookable areas in Newstead Park. My very favourite ceremony location is the cute little rotunda on the water’s edge at the junction of the Brisbane River and Breakfast Creek. Its riverfront position means that the park has fabulous photo locations and cool river breezes. Loads of free, shady parking right in the park is definitely a bonus.
