Coolangatta Wedding

Coolangatta wedding

Why Choose a Coolangatta Wedding

There are tons of good reasons to have a Coolangatta wedding. Coolangatta is at the southern end of the Gold Coast. It is beautiful, with clear blue sea and brilliant white sandy beaches. Coolangatta has a slower pace than Surfers Paradise and feels less tacky and far more relaxing. It is close to the Gold Coast Airport, making travel a breeze for overseas and interstate guests. Brisbane is about 1 1/2 hours drive away.

Beaches for a Coolangatta Wedding

There are plenty of places to hold a Coolangatta wedding ceremony. The beaches are so gorgeous that the biggest problem you will face is choosing which beach you love the most for your ceremony. My personal favourite is Froggy’s Beach, at the eastern end of Coolangatta, right near the famous Snapper Rocks. Froggy’s Beach is more secluded and less busy than other Coolangatta beaches. There is plenty of free parking nearby and the big green frog (a large frog-shaped boulder painted to look like a frog) is a great talking point in your photos.

Greenmount Beach and Coolangatta Beach are also fabulous ceremony locations. You must obtain a permit for a beach wedding from the Gold Coast City Council. The permits are free and you can have up to 50 guests attending.

Views Without Sand

If you love sea views but don’t want a beach wedding, have a look at Pat Fagan Park and Point Danger. Both are great ceremony venues for a Coolangatta wedding. Pat Fagan Park sits high on Greenmount Hill. It is grassy and shady and has views all the way up the coast to Surfers Paradise. Point Danger is right on the Queensland – New South Wales border and the views stretch from Surfers Paradise south to Byron Bay. Both parks can be booked through the Gold Coast City Council’s website. There is a non-refundable booking fee of $108.

Kirra Hill

One of my very favourite places for a Coolangatta wedding is the Kirra Hill Community and Cultural Centre. Located on the old Coolangatta primary school on the top of Kirra Hill, the community centre has a wonderful grassy lawn for ceremonies. The views are amazing. The school buildings have a kitchen and can be used as a reception venue as well as a great wet weather ceremony option.

Reception and Accommodation

Coolangatta and its sister town Tweed Heads, just across the state border, have lots of options for your wedding reception. There are plenty of restaurants and the licensed clubs often have great wedding packages that can be both convenient and economical.

Accommodation options in the area range from caravan parks and budget-friendly motels to palatial apartments and modern hotels.

For some other Gold Coast wedding options, have a look a my blogs about weddings at Currumbin, Broadbeach, Emerald Lakes at Carrara, Surfers Paradise and Southport. Just over the border from Coolangatta is Fingal. It has a gorgeous, quiet beach just perfect for weddings.

I love Coolangatta and have spent lots of time there. For a celebrant who knows and loves the southern Gold Coast, CALL ME NOW.
